SonLight Power Announces Executive Transition
December 23, 2011
For the first time since its inception 10 years ago, SonLight Power has a new Executive Director.
Allen Rainey, founder and visionary of SonLight Power (SLP), is transitioning his role as Executive Director to Kevin Sasson. The SLP Board of Trustees approved the transition plan in October.
This transition allows Allen to focus on his favorite tasks, now part of his new role as Director of Programs. As Director of Programs, Allen will oversee SLP's three outreach areas: mission trips, solar training, and solar consulting.
"No one is more excited than I am to have Kevin on board," says Allen. "Now I get to do what I do best – plan and execute mission trips, design solar power systems, develop missionary partnerships, and educate others on the benefits and capabilities of solar power."
By now, most SLP supporters are familiar with Kevin Sasson. Kevin is a Cincinnati native who has been associated with SLP since 2004. In 2007, he left the comforts of his San Francisco Bay career to serve God and SLP in Honduras. Since that time, Kevin has been an integral part of SLP's growth and increased visibility in Latin America. He has helped open doors with the Honduran and U.S. governments while forging multilateral partnerships with USMILGP and Honduran universities like UPi and UNITEC. Kevin recently returned to the Cincinnati area, along with his lovely wife, Jenny.
"Kevin's accomplishments in Honduras over the last four years on behalf of SonLight Power show his dedication, skills, and focus," says Allen. "What he has accomplished since joining us here in the U.S. is amazing – leading our efforts to earn a major grant from P&G, cultivating partnerships, and building consensus around a strategic plan that will help SonLight Power grow sustainably into our second decade."
Prior to his association with SLP, Kevin demonstrated high performance at all levels as a trusted spokesperson in program development, strategic sales, and marketing while working with two global communications firms in London and the Silicon Valley. A former Rhodes Scholarship nominee and university trustee, he has developed and implemented strategy to achieve goals.
As Executive Director, Kevin will exercise his global view and unique perspective to solving problems on behalf of SLP.
SonLight Power Vision:
To be a life-changing organization,
transforming lives through the sustainable power of the Son/sun.
SonLight Power Mission:
To improve the lives of
underserved children, families, and communities worldwide
through sustainable solar-powered solutions.
We actively engage with the communities we serve,
applying solar power and Christian principles
to improve access to educational opportunities,
wellness, economic development, skills training,
and emergency preparedness – empowering others
with faith, love, and a renewed sense of hope.
"SonLight Power has such a great story to tell," says Kevin. "It's a privileged responsibility to lead our global family of supporters. SonLight Power represents so much more than solar power. Those of us who have been around here a while know that SonLight Power represents faith, hope, and love. We're really in the faith, hope, and love business."
"I want those who haven't heard of SonLight Power to understand what our SonLight Power family already knows: that there are people all over the world in places like Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, the Congo, the United States – people like my friend and Christian brother, Pastor Safari from Rwanda – who are praying right now for the hope that SonLight Power represents."
To communicate SLP's plan and vision for sustainable outreach, Kevin is interested in building relationships with all SLP supporters. This plan includes a make-over of SLP's current online presence to keep SLP mission trip alumni and overseas supporters engaged. Kevin would like to cultivate personal connections with SLP supporters to determine how to best align each supporter's interests with SLP's vision.
"That way, we can develop long-term relationships that are sustaining and meaningful," says Kevin. "Our new campaign, See the Light. Be the Light., reminds us how special SonLight Power is. Each of us has the opportunity to tangibly See the Light we share with others in impacted areas. We also have the opportunity to Be the Light in someone else's life."
"SonLight Power is poised to do well with Kevin at the helm," says Allen. "I believe our achievements for God's glory in the next five years will eclipse our 10-year record."
